Carlos Luna – Director

Carlos Luna CVOCarlos Luna, MA. Carlos served in the Navy from 2004-2009 as an Aviation Electronics Technician (AT). He was stationed on Naval Air Station Lemoore, Lemoore, CA and Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia Beach, VA. He deployed to the Persian Gulf as part of OIF/OEF (2007-2008).

He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from DePaul University, Chicago in 2012. After which he worked as a Mental Health Professional with at-risk youth in various capacities and where the need for social justice became most salient to him. He went on to earn a Master of Arts degree in Community Psychology from DePaul University, Chicago in June 2016 where he learned to develop ways to empower military veterans and other at-risk populations. He is certified as a Veteran Service Officer (VSO) through the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers (NACVSO).

Carlos was awarded a fellowship through The Mission Continues to serve at Chicago Veterans as Community Impact Manager. In 2017, Carlos and a team of Latino veterans, veteran families, and a Gold Star Mother established a charter of the League of Latin American Citizens (LULAC) – Green Card Veterans. This charter fights on behalf of military veterans, their families, and Gold Star families who have been, or are at-risk of being, deported to their country of origin. Carlos was recently appointed LULAC’s Illinois State Director of Veteran Affairs.

Carlos believes strongly in the potential of veterans’ ability to create lasting change and is set in utilizing that potential in empowering the city as a whole; because the veteran community is not isolated to one corner of the country, it is woven into every corner of it.
