Theresa Raborn for Congress Statement
Coming from a family full of veterans, I support our veterans 100%. My husband, father, father-in-law, step father-in-law, uncle, four brothers, two nephews, a niece, and about a dozen cousins have served (or are currently serving) in our Armed Forces. Some even served in Vietnam and in the Middle East wars/conflicts. My family has served in the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines.
When it comes to healthcare, our veterans should have the absolute best healthcare in the world! Not only do I support dental care being treated as medical care for our veterans, but I believe dental care should NOT be a separate healthcare plan. It should be included in medical care, just like mental health, physical therapy, chiropractic care, and other forms of medical care. I would also add vision care into that as well.
Our Veterans should never have to pay a copay for their medical care. After all, they already paid that copay via their service to our country, in my opinion. I also believe that veterans should not have to wait for care. If a Veteran cannot get into the VA in a timely manner, he or she should be able to go to another provider and it should be covered at 100% and no Veteran should ever get a bill from a provider. We already have laws like this for crime victims. Why not have those laws for our Nation’s Treasured Heroes – Our Veterans?!
The bills currently in Congress “expire” once this current Congress is over on January 3, 2021. Although I will not be able to co-sponsor the bills currently in Congress, I will make sure that those bills or similar bills are re-introduced once I am in office.
I also have a couple bills on my website, RabornForCongress.com, that deal specifically with Veterans’ issues.
- Mandatory Military and First Responders Mental Health Checkups (https://www.rabornforcongress.com/mandatory_military_and_first_responders_mental_health_checkups): This will ensure that we are taking care of our veterans, both physically AND mentally. No one should fall through the cracks. Actually this bill ensures that there are no cracks for our beloved Veterans to fall through. And we MUST remove the stigma often associated with mental illness. It is not a sign of weakness; it’s a sign that you have endured, and survived, trauma far beyond the normal levels.
- Unemployment and Homelessness of Veterans (https://www.rabornforcongress.com/unemployment_and_homelessness_of_veterans): This bill ensures that we are taking care of our Veterans. The worst thing we can do as a nation is to allow our beloved Veterans to live in poverty and homelessness. It is despicable to ignore their struggles. This bill is geared toward reaching those veterans and providing them the resources they need, with dignity and respect and without judgement.
I am also open to any ideas our veterans may have. Please reach out to me at email@example.com with any ideas or suggests you may have. Even if you just want to alert me to a problem or challenge, but don’t have a solution, at least let me know so I can get to work on drafting a plan to solve the issue. I WANT your input!
Thank you and may God bless you and your families! YOU are the heart and soul of America!
