CVO meeting minutes for July 16, 2025 on ZOOM from 7 PM to 9 PM.

 

July 16, 2025 Minutes

Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by chairman Larry Nazimek.

Present: Larry Nazimek, Constance Edwards, Francine O’Connor, Joe Kewer< Willie Mack, Derrick Winding

Agenda approval: O’Connor moved and Mack seconded the motion to approve the agenda as circulated to the CVO Google group via email.

Financial Report: The Treasurer was not present.

Committee Reports:

Veterans Affairs Committee (currently a committee of one) . Larry Nazimek sent out the report to the CVO Google Group and the webmaster.

In addition to the Veterans Affairs Committee report Larry said he attended the monthly Veterans Town Hall meeting at Jesse Brown VAH. There was a recent outbreak of Hospital acquired Pneumonia among the hospitalized patients ,but no deaths were reported due to the outbreak.

The 988 Suicide Hotline has expanded to the Crisis Hotline with more crises included. A crisis may be as defined by the individual veteran.

The Outreach Committee: Chair Derrick Winding said he did not have anything new to report

Old Business:

          Dental Bil: there has been no action on the proposed Dental Bill to date. Francine said she Quigley’s contact. Quigley’s staff person, Adam Winters, is leaving and will be replaced by Kimberly Garchera (?)

New Business:

Francine noted that we must stay vigilant on “Saving the VA Health Care System” from the Federal cuts to the VA even though they said they are “not cutting , but just not filling vacancies as they occur.”

Announcements: Jesse Brown VAH will be sponsoring a free Women Veterans Fair for all area female veterans at Malcolm X College on August 19, 2025 from 1000 to 1400 hours.

Willie Mack said he wanted to review the CVO General meeting minutes from 2018 and 2019, but was unable to pull them down on the website. He will work with the webmaster to obtain those records.

Adjournment:  At the conclusion of business on the agenda Edwards moved and O’Connor seconded the motion to adjourn the meeting at 2042

Next meeting: The next general meeting will be held on August 20, 2025 1900 to 2100 hours via Zoom.
