The next meeting of CVO will be from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on this Wednesday, November 15th, at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center. We meet in the 2nd floor Prescription Room (far north section of the building). Parking in the garage may be validated.
The agenda will include a scheduled presentation entitled “Mexican Americans in America’s Defense”, reports from selected committees: (Executive, Homelessness, Newsletter, Veterans Affairs, Legal Support), and helpful information. Bring your ideas to strengthen CVO and all veterans. You may renew your 2018 membership online (www.coalitionofvets.org/membership/ ) or at this meeting. The first meeting of CVO in 2018 will be held on Wednesday, January 17th at 7 PM in the 2nd floor Conference Room of the Jesse Brown VA Hospital at 820 S Damen Ave in Chicago. Arrive early if you are interested in the committees and catching up on what CVO is doing; members of the Executive Committee will be there by 6 PM.
The agenda is really exciting! We’re going to start with a presentation by veteran activist Aaron Hughes on the Right to Heal Campaign. Then we are going have Bill Luna back to make another presentation on Latino veterans. We will also be giving out coupons for free haircuts at the Hair Cuttery.

The next meeting of the Coalition of Veterans Organizations will be held in the 2nd floor Conference Room of the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center at 7 PM on this Wednesday, February 21st.
The Executive Committee will meet at 6 PM in the same location. If you want to attend and see what the Executive Committee does, arrive at 6 PM.
The Agenda for the Membership Meeting will include a presentation on “The Right to Heal Campaign,” a campaign against the increasing privatization of the VA. We will also have reports on the Veterans Against Violence Campaign, the CVO struggle for Dental Care for Veterans and other issues of importance to Veterans and their families.
Light refreshments will be served. Parking will be validated.

LaShun James will make a presentation on Addus Homecare for Veterans. This is an important medical issue for Veterans, so be sure to come and hear LaShun.
Also, nominations will be held for the Executive Committee. All nominations must be made at this meeting. The elections to the CVO Executive Committee will be held at the April meeting.

Since our March 1st program we have been busy! Hundreds of you called your representatives on our Save the VA Call In Day; We had delegations visit staffers at Senator Durbin’s, Senator Duckworth’s, and Representative Quigley’s Offices; With SEIU Healthcare and AFGE 789 we demanded that Rear Adm. Jackson and President Trump state unequivocally that the Administration will not pursue an agenda to privatize the VA in anyway shape or form; We hosted a panel on the issues and our campaign at the Labor Notes Conference; And we’ve gotten press coverage in a handful of great outlets. But we still have our work cut out for us.
With all the turmoil resulting from Secretary Shulkin’s dismissal and Trump’s overt plans to privatize the VA, now is the time to get organized. Join the fight to save the VA. RSVP today to join us at our Veteran & Community Meeting.

Angela Turner-Susberry will make a presentation to veterans showing that they need to take care of their arrangements in advance, thereby taking the burden off their families. They can share this information with their family and friends.
Donald Evans of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) which organizes workers at Jesse Brown, will make a presentation on the Right to Heal Campaign. Bruce Parry will update the members on the Right to Heal meeting held on this past Saturday and on other activities involving CVO.

The next meeting of the Coalition of Veterans Organizations will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, 820 S Damen in the 2nd Floor Conference Room. The meeting will start at 7 PM, but refreshments and CVO leaders will be there at 6 to discuss issues with anyone who comes early. Also, the pizza will be hotter then, than during the meeting.
The key agenda point will be a presentation and discussion around the 1932 Bonus March, the Civil Rights Campaign of the 1950s and 60s, the Human Rights Campaign, the original Poor People’s Campaign in 1968, and the new “Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival” of today. CVO is participating in the Poor People’s Campaign on Monday, May 28th (Memorial Day). Find out all about it!

Chicago’s Memorial Day Parade honors all men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country.
The Wreath Laying Ceremony will begin at 11am at the Eternal Flame on Daley Plaza (Dearborn and Washington Streets). The parade will step off at noon and proceed south on State Street from Lake Street to Van Buren Street.
